This week we were learning football skills with Coach Lauren. We had lots of fun practising dribbling the ball and scoring goals.

Pirate Playtime... creating, making, thinking, problem solving and having lots of fun!

Easter Fun in Year 1! Today we had an Easter Party with our friends in Nursery. We sang Easter songs and played Easter games. We have also been enjoying Easter Arts and crafts, stories and a movie in our classroom. Today we also had a surprise delivery from the Easter bunny which was very exciting.

Today we celebrated St Patrick’s day. We read the story of St Patrick and then made our own shamrock wands. During play we also took part in lots of fun St Patrick’s Day activities. I was so impressed with how well the children listened and remembered the story of St Patrick so please ask them to share this with you at home!

World book day 2024. We had a wonderful day celebrating world book day. We had a special assembly to show off our costumes. We had a parade with nursery in our playground and then the Year 7’s came to our classroom to read to us.

Today we went on our very own bear hunt around school. Our naughty bears were hiding in different classrooms and we had to find them. We had lots of fun looking for them!

This week we became scientists and grew our own gummy bear. We couldn’t believe the results. We were so excited!

This term we will be learning to code on different devices and apps. Today we were learning how to use the BeeBot - our floor robot and exploring the App “Code Karts”. We had lots of fun learning how to give instructions, code and follow directions.

Our trip to see Santa. We had a brilliant morning at the Navan Centre. We got entertained by a funny Elf, watched a Christmas show about a Snowman, made a Christmas craft and of course visited Santa who said we are all on the good list!

Today we had a visit from the Dogs Trust. We talked about how to stay safe around dogs and care for them.

Exploring Instruments

We have been learning the names of musical instruments and exploring their sounds. We created a sound story called ‘The Hairy Scary Castle’. We used instruments to create sounds to match the story and then for our ICT task we learnt how to record our story using the iPad. We hope you enjoy it!

Year 1 won the attendance cup for September. Well done!

Every Monday morning we start off our week by taking part in the ‘Relax Kids’ programme. Relax Kids supports children’s mental and emotional health and wellbeing with a range of tools and techniques to help calm their body and mind and build confidence and self-esteem. We all really enjoy our weekly sessions with Mary.

Today we finished off our Numeracy topic on Patterns and Sorting using Marshmallows! We counted them, sorted them for colour and made our own patterns! As we done so well of course we were allowed to eat them at the end 🙂

European Day of Languages 2023. Today we celebrated all the different Languages we can speak in our class. Did you know there are 6 different languages spoken in Year 1? We learnt how to say Hello in different languages and then watched Peppa Pig in 5 different Languages. We finished off our day with some super colouring in.

What a busy week we have had in Year 1. We have been enjoying outdoor and indoor play activities. Learning to use our writing pencil, recognising and writing our names and in Numeracy we have been sorting objects. Well done everyone!

Self Portraits. This week we have been learning all about ‘Ourselves’. We created a rainbow background using paint pens. Then we got our picture taken and used black markers to draw a picture of ourselves by copying our photograph.
