Well done to these Year 6 girls who won runner-up and overall winner of our school Christmas Card Competition 🎄
We had a visit from Julie, who works for Dogs Trust. The workshop focussed on Safe Behaviour Around Dogs. The workshop aims to harness safe, loving relationships between children and the dogs that they share their lives and social settings with. Through discussion, role-play and song, the children were encouraged to adopt safe and kind behaviours towards their canine friends 🦮
We have been working on two-step function machines.
Multiplying and Dividing by 10 & 100
We supported BBC Children in Need on Friday 15th November 2024. We came to school wearing something spotty or yellow and we also hosted a Bun Sale at break time. We were delighted to receive a message from BBC Children in Need hosts wishing us well and thanking us for our fundraising. We even had a visit from Pudsey Bear! It was a such a fun day and we raised an AMAZING £601.00 for this wonderful charity.
Using Just2Easy, we created these wonderful, eye-catching posters to advertise our Bun Sale in aid of BBC Children in Need.
We have been working SO hard. As a little treat, we made some chocolate apples for Halloween 👻
We have been working on synonyms, antonyms and shades of meaning 🎨✏️
We have been working on multiples.
We have been very busy delivering Samaritan’s Purse Shoeboxes to all of the boys and girls in school. This is in preparation for our Christmas Shoebox Appeal.
In our Literacy and The World Around Us lessons, we have been using our class novel ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ to inspire writing in a variety of genres. Have a look at our wonderful work so far!
We are very excited to start our new class novel. It is called ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ by Brian Selznick. In pairs, we studied the front cover and discussed the title and pictures/illustrations in order to make some predictions about what the story may be about. We also passed around some props for more clues.
We have been using our European Top Trumps cards to consolidate our learning of reading, writing, ordering and comparing large numbers. We focused on the populations and land areas of European countries.
We are so proud of these two boys from Year 6! They both played in the St. John the Baptist College ‘All-Ireland Gaelic Blitz’ with their Ballyoran PS teammates and won the shield. A big well done to all involved!
Our class novel is The Cuckoo Child by Dick King-Smith. In the story, Jack Daw steals an ostrich egg from the Wildlife Park to try and hatch it at his farm. We were delighted to see and handle a real ostrich egg today. They are gigantic! The largest egg of any bird 🥚
We are thoroughly enjoying our class novel, The Cuckoo Child 🪺🪿📖
Enjoying Healthy Kidz. A lovely way to start our Thursday!
Our Year 6 Pupil Council Representatives, as voted for by the pupils in Year 6.
The children completed an application form to become a Digital Leader. Well done to these successful candidates from Year 6 😊 They will be fantastic in their role as our Digital Leaders.
Our Vice Captains for Bann, Foyle and Lagan.
We really enjoy our Relax Kids sessions on a Monday morning. The sessions teach us mindfulness and relaxation techniques by ‘following the rainbow’. These 7 steps (move, play, stretch, feel, breathe, believe and relax) help calm our bodies and minds, as well as building our confidence and self-esteem 🌈
We created these wonderful self-portraits in the style of Brazilian Pop Artist, Romero Britto 🖌️🎨
One of our favourite books in Year 6 is The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. We read through the book, discussed the themes within it and annotated some of our favourite quotes. Have a look at our ‘kindness’ display, which was beautifully illustrated by these two very talented Year 6 girls!
